Banana God

'Cavendish' bananas are the main commercial cu...Image via WikipediaBananas contain a lot of good things. They contain vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, proteins, and the list goes on. Despite this, bananas are generally only remembered for containing one thing: potassium. People treat bananas like they are made of pure potassium. Which is odd because potassium is a soft, silvery metal and bananas are yellow and go off in the fridge.

Someone complained that they had a twitchy eye so I said that they may have a magnesium deficiency and that they should eat more bananas. They, of course, replied, "I thought it was potassium that was found in bananas."

Now for the tenuous connection. We sometimes treat God the same way we treat the humble banana. Sometimes we become so focused on one aspect of God that we forget about the others. Sometimes we become so focused on God as a loving Saviour that we forget that he is also an awesome judge. Sometimes we see him only as a creator and ignore that he is also intimately interested in our lives.

Job 36:26 says
How great is God—beyond our understanding!
The number of his years is past finding out.
It's awesome to have a God that is so amazing and so vast and so multifaceted that we can't even comprehend it. I think, however, we can forget things about God to our detriment.

Quick Questions
  1. Has Thomas gone bananas?
  2. What amazes you about God?
  3. What aspects of God do you perhaps forget about?

  1. 1. Thomas has not gone bananas. This would require a humbling process... and I've heard much more tenuous links than this!

2.It amazes me that God could have made the sea out of air, and the sky out of liquid, hills out of Jelly, and teeth out of . But he didn't. I also find it amazing that the only victory ever sustained involved being tortured and killed. That Jesus saved the best wine for last, and essentially rubbed his spit into blind eyes, and wiped mud from seeing eyes. I could go on...

    3. I often try to sort life's complications out, then imagine God stood there like Sonic the Hedgehog, arms folded and tapping his foot, waiting for me to notice him. (what a friend we have in Jesus should be sung more!) I guess also as I often picture God as Sonic the Hedgehog; I may have 'standing in the awe of God' issues...
