I have a lot of respect for this guy. He has an awesome name and he also talks a lot of sense. He is most famous for his Why I Hate Religion, But I Love Jesus video. This has received about 27 million views on YouTube. This is one of his more recent videos that lists stupid things Christians say.

Yet another Resource Wednesday. I've been looking into worship music a lot recently, especially new workings of old hymns. This is the Sing Team, one of Mars Hill's worship bands. However, I love the mix of community and praise they've got going.

Francis Chan: Making Disciples vs Memorizing

I really love Francis Chan and recently got his book 'Erasing Hell' on Kindle for FREE. Haven't read it yet, but will do soon, hopefully.

Here's a rather funny but good video about how sometimes Bible Study and memorising scripture can be pointless if it leads to no action.

I suppose it goes back to the James 2:14-26 verse about faith without deeds being dead.

Youth group or Missional Community?

Today I have decided that I no longer run a youth group called x:cell. I'm there to equip a missional community made of teenagers (incidentally, called x:cell).

A youth group is often just a small group of people at secondary school and, too me, "small group" is just a euphemism for "holy huddle". Small groups are apparently there to develop people, but develop to what? Do the small groups change, grow, get out there and fulfil the Great Commission? Generally, no, they do not.

So what is different about a missional community? I'll let Jeff Vanderstelt and Caesar Kalinowski explain.

I do not want x:cell to be a holy huddle. I do not want them to be inward looking and ineffectual. I want them to be bold. I want them to proclaim God's glory where ever they go. I want the good news of the Gospel to be on their hearts and on their lips. I want them to be a missional community.
