A tricksy one

New Christians must be warned: God's a tricksy one. He likes to keep us on our toes. He'll never do it as we expect it to be done. It's funny, when I pray I pray "God, I really need this to be done, and it needs to be done like this." I mean it's not too much to ask is it? If you were to get a set of decorators in and you ask your walls to be painted and you say you want it done in yellow, with a golden feature wall and you come back to purple polka-dots you'll be a bit surprised. It's not as if they didn't know how to paint walls yellow or gold or of they couldn't do it. They're decorators. So why didn't they? you ask.

So when I ask God to answer my prayers, I know he can do it. He can do it in any way I ask him to. But he chooses not to. Why? Because he knows better. One time I was at the hairdressers and I asked for grade 4 on my sides and back and a trim on top. She said, however, "I'm going to do grade 5 instead, because it looks better." She was right because she knew what she was doing. And I trusted her.

So when we pray, we need to pray in the knowledge that God's understanding is much greater than ours. If I can trust a hairdresser to do what she does then surely I can trust the God of the universe. It's a lesson that I've been learning recently.
